Talking the talk!

March 6, 2008

In spite of hitting .342 and .306 in his last two seasons, Robinson Cano has expressed a desire to improve his all around game in today’s NY Daily News. Many people are intent on claiming at the long term deal he signed this offseason, and the loss of Larry Bowa, who constantly pushed him to better himself, will result in him becoming complacent and lazy.

For someone who has put up the numbers he has since making the breakthrough in 2005, surely he deserves slightly more of the benefit of the doubt!? Then again, Moose has already been written off by many… it seems that Pete Abraham was right to liken some fans to what Dan Shaughnessy calls the ‘Fellowship of the Miserable.’

I don’t get why some folk seem to enjoy predicting impending doom for the team and the players… Thankfully this negative energy doesn’t seem to be having any impact on Cano, who’s targeted an improved first half this year to nail down a place in the All Star Game.

If he can put on the showing he did for the whole year in 06, and for the second half last year, he’ll likely be a strong favourite to be roaming familiar territory in this summer’s ASG.

SP busts

March 6, 2008

Discounting the current Yankee(i’m not naming names) who wins this award by a huge, and still increasing amount, who is the biggest SP bust over the years? While there were pitchers through history who have not met expectations, i have decided to focus on the more recent acquisitions, mainly due to the amounts of money being thrown at players nowadays. I’m sure there are others, but here is my shortlist of five. Leave a comment with your opinion, or add in somebody who you feel i have missed out.
