Cervelli suffers broken wrist in home-plate clash

March 9, 2008

Joe G was absolutely furious last night after a clash at home with the Rays’ Elliot Johnson last night, the second such clash at home involving Rays players this week.

Jon Madden seems to have dismissed it as “good hardball,” but then shirked from the spotlight after Joe G called him and his team out for going over the top for a spring training game. Quite rightly so in my opinion. What’s happened here shouldn’t be impacted by the fact that it’s the third choice catcher in the depth chart, but then again I can only imagine the furore if it had been Posada injured at the plate.

Nonetheless, with 3 games left against the Rays this spring, and plenty of regular season action between the teams, this could well linger on for a while now, as from the way he’s reacted to the whole affair, I can most definitely see Joe G wanting to send a message in retribution for what happened.
