There is no hiding the fact that Hawkins stunk the place up last night, but should fans maybe not give him more than two games before booing him constantly? Lets not forget that Kennedy put us in a hole last night and the offense has been largely MIA all season. Also, the jeers Hawkins gets for wearing “Paul O’Neill’s” number are completely ridiculous. The fans who boo him for that reason alone just serve in giving great ammunition for all Yankee haters out there. Paul O’Neill knows that the Yankees love hime, he must get daily reminders of that but i’m pretty sure that he would be ashamed of the fans that he loves for giving a hard time to guy based on nothing of any importance.
I think Hawkins is going to be a big part of any success we have this year and fans should just embrace him now. All stories coming out of the clubhouse about him are positive – from the rookie hazing he took part in to how he consoled Scott Paterson after he was sent down. So please, Yankee fans, lets at least wait until we know for sure about how good or bad Hawkins is going to be before jumping all over him.
