Hank Steinbrenner – Is he the real idiot?

April 21, 2008

After reading everything Hank had to say about the whole Joba situation i had to laugh. Not at his opinion- it’s a perfectly valid one that numerous people agree with. Nor at his massively misjudged swipe at seemingly every single Yankee employee, past and present. Not even at his standpoint that if you disagree with him then you are idiotic. All of those points aside the most hilarious part of his tirade has to be his quote about the decision that was made last yeas to put Joba in the bullpen:

“The mistake was already made last year switching him to the bullpen out of panic or whatever,” Steinbrenner told The Times. “I had no say in it last year and I wouldn’t have allowed it. That was done last year, so now we have to catch up. It has to be done on a schedule so we don’t rush him.”

What i find funny about this quote is that he completely contradicts himself. Yes, last year he didn’t have the authority to make that decision but this year he is more than implying he does. If he does have that power then why did he “allow it” this year? Either he doesn’t have the power people have led him to believe he has or he was one of the “idiots” who decided it best to leave Joba in the bullpen?
